ZOZO's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Targets Validated as Science Based Targets by the the Science Based Targets initiative

ZOZO, Inc. (headquartered in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, Representative Director, President & CEO: SAWADA Kotaro), which operates the fashion e-commerce ZOZOTOWN, announces that its short-term goal—the “2030 Carbon Neutrality Declaration,” which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its business operations by 2030—and its long-term goal—the “Net Zero” target, which aims to achieve net-zero GHG emissions including indirect emissions associated with its business operations—have been officially validated as Science Based Targets (“SBT”) by the international climate initiative, Science Based Targets initiative (“SBTi”).*¹

Through this validation, SBTi has confirmed that the Company’s both short-term and long-term targets meet its standards.

SBTi is an international climate initiative jointly operated by the United Nations Global Compact , CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), We Mean Business Coalition, and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The organization reviews and certifies whether the emission reduction targets of companies and organizations worldwide are scientifically aligned with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal.


<ZOZO’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Targets>
[Short-term Target:2030 Carbon Neutrality Declaration] (Base year: 2020)
・Scope 1 & 2*²: Reduce GHG emissions by 90%
・Scope 3*³: Reduce GHG emissions by 42%

[Long-term Target: Net-Zero] (Base year: 2020)
・Scope 1 & 2: Maintain at least a 90% reduction in GHG emissions reduction between 2030 and 2050 (with up to 10% of emissions offset)
・Scope 3: Reduce GHG emissions by 90% (with up to 10% of emissions offset)


The Company has worked on enhancing sustainable growth and solving environmental and social issues since April 2021 based on its Sustainability Statement "Fashion Connects and Leads us to a Sustainable Future," and four Key Actions*⁴ revised in August of 2024. These efforts include expanding ZOZOUSED, the secondhand apparel resale service, Providing Made by ZOZO, Production support service, improving load efficiency in trunk transportation through collaboration with logistics partners, and other initiatives that contribute to enhancing circular fashion. Through these initiatives, the Company will continue promoting GHG reduction, and to realize its corporate philosophy: “Inspire the world. Deliver joy every day.”
